Solder a bridge over this jumper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This article does not cover any AllStarLink node setup or configuration; as a recommendation for ease of setup. I recommend AllStarLink 3 for best results and to match the settings in this guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To run the various software components needed, a temporary \u2018clean machine\u2019 is built by making a new SD card image for a Raspberry Pi. This ensures the process will be reproducible for everyone since no spurious software is involved. Once the updates are made, the Raspberry Pi can be put back to it previous tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Update to install instructions:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have created a ready-to-go Raspberry Pi image with everything you need to flash and manage the AIOC for HW Cos, V-Cos and the various settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go to my GitHub <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/G1LRO\/aioc-config\">https:\/\/github.com\/G1LRO\/aioc-config<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And find more instructions there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Disregard this old information, I&#8217;ll leave it here for a little while whilst everyone gets used to the new method:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Legacy instructions, see above <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1 Preparing the Raspberry Pi for programming your AIOC or URC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll need a Raspberry Pi (v3b or later) and a spare Micro SD card to load the specific software for making the AIOC or URC AllStartLink compatible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are using an existing Raspberry Pi from your AllStarLink node to perform this process, shut down your node, remove the SD card and store it safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To enable the HID libraries used in the config software, we need to get an older bullseye version from the archive and not use a listed version from the Pi Imager. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Access the archive here::<br>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/downloads.raspberrypi.com\/raspios_oldstable_arm64\/images\/raspios_oldstable_arm64-2025-05-07\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/downloads.raspberrypi.com\/raspios_oldstable_arm64\/images\/raspios_oldstable_arm64-2025-05-07\/<\/a><br><br>Download &#8220;2025-05-06-raspios-bullseye-arm64.img.xz&#8221; from that page, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use the Raspberry Pi Imager to create the SD card, then when selecting the OS in Raspberry Pi imager, scroll to the bottom, select <em>&#8220;Use Custom&#8221;<\/em>, and then select that .xz file you have just downloaded:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-3-1024x750.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-908\" srcset=\"https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-3-1024x750.png 1024w, https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-3-300x220.png 300w, https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-3-768x563.png 768w, https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-3-1536x1125.png 1536w, https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-3.png 1556w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Using the option to pre-configure your WiFi and admin login.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don\u2019t have a screen and keyboard connected to the Pi then use the SERVICES tab to enable SSH with password authentication so you can log in with Putty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"763\" height=\"753\" src=\"https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-22-212906-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-705\" srcset=\"https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-22-212906-1.png 763w, https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-22-212906-1-300x296.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 763px) 100vw, 763px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the image creation is complete, insert the SD card into the Raspberry Pi and boot it up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use a screen and keyboard connected to the Pi, or an SSH login with Putty, to get to the terminal prompt. Use the username and password created in the imager software. (if you need info for connecting to a Pi without a screen\/keyboard attached,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=how+to+connect+to+a+raspberry+pi+without+a+monitor\">this can help<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once logged-in to the terminal, at the prompt, enter the following three command lines (pressing enter after each one) to set up the software:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>wget www.g1lro.uk\/1.3runmeonce.sh\nchmod +x 1.3runmeonce.sh\n.\/1.3runmeonce.sh<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the script is running, you may be asked to confirm \u2018Y\u2019 a few times, go ahead and do this to complete the installation of the software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This automatic install process will load:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The firmware and flash utility to upgrade your  AIOC to V1.3 (latest version)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scripts to alter the identity of the AIOC CPU to emulate the CM108 device that AllStarLink is expecting to see and set the HW COS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A script to put the AIOC CPU back to the default \u2018AIOC\u2019 identity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2 Upgrading the AIOC Firmware<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before attaching the AIOC to the raspberry Pi, it\u2019s important to put it into DFU programming mode. This needs to be done prior to attaching the USB plug connected to the Pi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For the AIOC<\/strong>&nbsp;single board, put a wire link across the programming holes. When you connect the USB lead from the Pi, the AIOC will be in DFU mode and&nbsp;<strong>no lights will show<\/strong>. Go to 2.1 below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the AIOC in DFU (firmware loading) mode,&nbsp;<strong>the lights will not come on,<\/strong>&nbsp;if they do, unplug and try again, something is not right with the jumper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2.1 Run the Firmware Update on the AIOC in DFU mode<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the Pi terminal prompt type the following command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>.\/1.3flash.sh<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pi will now load the V1.3 firmware into the AIOC CPU and you should see something like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1023\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-22-220116.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-684\" srcset=\"https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-22-220116.png 1023w, https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-22-220116-300x196.png 300w, https:\/\/g1lro.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-2024-04-22-220116-768x501.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1023px) 100vw, 1023px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Press Ctrl-C to abort the flashing process as it will repeat every 10 seconds. Don\u2019t stop it mid-download.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unplug the USB cable&nbsp;<strong>remove any jumpers&nbsp;<\/strong>and and plug it back in again, make sure the lights illuminate on the AIOC. It is now running the latest 1.3 firmware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You do not need to repeat any of the above steps again.&nbsp;Your device can remain on the latest V1.3 firmware permanently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3 Change the AIOC identity for AllStarLink<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AllStarLink SimpleUSB setup (as used by HamVoip and others), is expecting to see the regular CM108 sound-card fob attached.
